Annual Education Report (AER) August11, 2010
DearParents and Community Members: Weare pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER)which provides key information on the 2009-2010 educational progressfor Lee Middle & High School. The AER addresses thecomplex reporting information required by federal and state laws. Theschool’s report contains information about student assessment,Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and teacher quality. If you have anyquestions about the AER, please contact Mr. Pete Foote, SecondaryPrincipal, for assistance. TheAER is available for you to review electronically by visiting thefollowing web site LeeMiddle School Annual Education Report (AER) LeeHigh School Annual Education Report (AER) oryou may review a copy from Mr. Foote's office at the middle and high school. For2009-2010, Lee Middle School did not make Adequate Yearly Progress(AYP) because our sub-group of special education students did notachieve the minimum state standards for proficiency in Englishlanguage arts. If we do not make AYP for two years in a row, we willbe identified for school improvement. To correct this, the school ispurchasing and will begin utilizing the Scholastic READ180 and System44 programs for extensive reading improvement for special educationand other students now reading below grade level in middle school. For2009-2010, Lee High School made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) inEnglish language arts and mathematics. While we are pleased to havereached this important goal, we are continuously working to improve. We appreciate the continued support of parents, staff and ourcommunity in this effort. Statelaw requires that we also report additional information.

Teachers, students, support staff and parents in our middle and high school areto be congratulated for the excellent work you continue to do eachyear in all academic areas. We should recognize at the same timethat we always have room for improvement and our focus will continueto be improving learning at a higher level to ensure our students arewell-grounded in content area skills and ready for high school by thetime they complete the 8th grade, and fully prepared forcollege and career by graduation.
It'salso important to understand that EdYES!, AYP, and NCLB only measureproficiency in reading and mathematics on one single assessmentadministered on one day during one school year, and by themselves donot statistically or adequately represent a true measure of overallstudent achievement or school performance. Our elementary students, despite the highest percentage of limited English proficiency in thecounty and second highest only to Grand Rapids in percentage ofeconomically disadvantaged, continue to excel at very high levels inall areas of learning.
Ilook forward to reporting on even greater levels of success in thecoming months and years.
Sincerely,
PeterFoote SecondaryPrincipal |
